Buena Vista Social Club

The musical Buena Vista Social Club brings the Grammy-winning Afro-Cuban album to life on stage.

Set in 1950s Havana and based on true events, the vibrant narrative unfolds as young musicians create a groundbreaking sound, disrupting the Cuban music scene until a political revolution abruptly ends their journey. Fast forward forty years, the band reunites to breathe new life into forgotten songs, channelling decades of heartbreak to produce the greatest-selling world music album, thus immortalising their legacy.

Under the creative direction of Marco Ramirez (The Royale) and Tony Nominee Saheem Ali (Fat Ham), a dynamic ensemble of visionary artists, including a globally renowned band, collaborates seamlessly. The musical team, led by Tony Winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit), and choreographed by Patricia Delgado (Spielberg’s West Side Story) alongside Tony Winner Justin Peck (Carousel), enhances the production. In a harmonious finale, the musical pays homage to artists who, amid upheaval and oppression, resiliently crafted the music they loved, with production helmed by Barbara Broccoli, Orin Wolf, and John Styles.

Buena Vista Social Club is running at Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (36 West 45th St), with performances beginning 21 February 2025. Tickets are on sale now.
